The Best Kept Beauty Secret,
Vinegar!
By Christine Gauthier
It's one of the most inexpensive beauty tools
you'll ever discover and you'll
likely find it in your kitchen cupboard. It may not have a fancy
label but once
you've tried it, you'll wonder how you lived without it.
Chances are you've used it on battered fish
and fries, without ever realizing all
the great beauty tricks this clear, acidic liquid can do for you.
That's right,
we're talking about vinegar.
Vinegar For Your Skin
Everyone's skin reacts differently to different
substances so always test new products of any kind on a small area
before bathing your skin in it.
1. Use a cotton swab to dab vinegar on that persistent blemish
that's threatening
to send you underground before that important meeting. It works
fast and as long as you keep it out of your eyes the results are
fantastic.
2. Mix a cup of warm water and vinegar to rinse your hair after
you shampoo. The vinegar acts like a cleanser on your hair and scalp
and leaves your crowning glory feeling fresh. Your favorite hair
products work best on truly clean hair.
3. Add a few tablespoons to your bath water to help relieve dry
and itchy skin.
4. Can't wear black? Try rinsing your hair with vinegar and follow
with warm water after you shampoo to help fight dandruff.
5. Too much time in the sun? You can help relieve a sunburn by
gently rubbing
vinegar on your skin.
6. Your nail polish will stay on longer and even apply smoother
if you clean your
nails with vinegar before you apply.
Vinegar For Your Wardrobe
Nobody likes retiring their favorite outfit because it's been washed
too many times and just doesn't do you justice anymore. Follow these
tips to keep your wardrobe beautiful.
1. Lint bogging you down? Try adding a half a cup of vinegar to
the rinse cycle.
2. Your once-bright clothing is looking dull. Just add a half a
cup of vinegar to
the rinse cycle and watch them restored to their former glory. Keep
new clothes
looking bright by always adding a half a cup to vinegar to the rinse
cycle.
3. White stains from your deodorant? Rub gently with vinegar and
wash as usual.
4. Love eating hot dogs at the ball park? Get those mustard stains
out by rubbing a little vinegar on it. It also works great on coffee
and jam and fruit.
5. You love your husband dearly but his socks make you want to find
the nearest
garbage bag and seal them up for all eternity. Using vinegar in
the rinse water
makes them come out smelling fresh.
Now that you've got your skin, hair, wardrobe and husband's feet
perfect, here are a few more tips that will come in handy.
1. The flowers your husband gave you are starting to wilt. Freshen
them up with 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 2 teaspoon of sugar per
quart of fresh water.
2. Want to curb your appetite safely? Try sprinkling a little bit
of vinegar on
your food.
3. Got a sore throat? Try gargling a tablespoon of vinegar in a
glass of warm
water. Swallow.
4. Hiccups just won't go away? One tablespoon of vinegar will do
the trick. Just
swallow when they hit and you'll soon be hiccup-free.
5. Tired of cleaning your house with products laden with chemicals?
Fill an old,
well-washed spray bottle half water and half vinegar and use in
place of most
cleaning supplies. The more you use it the more you'll be surprised
by how many
products it can replace.
There are hundreds of uses of vinegar and once you get hooked on
these tips and tricks you'll wonder how your beauty regime ever
managed without it.
