Homebirth and VBAC References: "Fear of Flying Surfliography"

Surfliography n. 1. A list of websites that provide information supporting the WebMama’s never to be humble opinion; 2. Links to serious source material, no joke; 3. Links to websites or articles that are somewhat relevant to the article at hand; 4. A set of links intended to provide a starting point for surfing off into one’s own direction in the quest for further information.

What are the risks of uterine rupture during VBAC? This series of articles from the Mayo Clinic does a pretty good job of explaining relative risks of repeat c-section versus risks of VBAC, and risk of uterine rupture in plain English. I love to use Midwifery Today for research on midwifery, home birth and VBAC. Here is an article, which was written for midwives, that helped me to understand the technical issues of VBAC.

How safe is homebirth? This is the largest and most recently published study that demonstrates safety of homebirth.

Do you need more articles, references, and discussion about the safety of homebirth, VBAC and other childbirth related topics? This website can be hard to navigate around in, but they provide a search page for locating topics.

Looking for a great consumer organization promoting the Midwives Model of Care? They have a very professional website filled with great resources.

Do you want the straight story? The Maternity Center Association is a fantastic resource supporting evidence based maternity care.
